Private · Tailored 3-Day Safari

This is the Northern Circuit done entirely on your terms. Over three days, your own private 4x4 and guide take you through Tarangire's elephant herds and baobabs, an optional stop at Lake Manyara or the Ngorongoro Highlands, and a full descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the best places on earth to see the Big Five in a single day. Nothing is shared and nothing is fixed beyond the outline below: stay longer at a sighting, start later, swap a stop, or rearrange the order, because the vehicle and the schedule are yours alone. Best for families and couples who want the classic Northern Circuit shaped around their own pace.

Why Go Private on a 3-Day Trip

On a longer safari, a shared vehicle rarely costs you much, there are enough days that everyone's preferences even out. On three days, it is different. Every hour is scarce, so whose schedule the vehicle follows actually matters.

A private safari means your guide answers to no one but your party. If a pride of lions is doing something extraordinary, you can stay twenty minutes longer instead of moving on because someone else in the group wants to reach the next stop. If your family wants a later start, or a shorter drive on the middle day, that is simply how the day runs. Nothing here changes the wildlife or the parks, Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater are the same whoever is in the vehicle, what changes is how much of the experience is shaped around you rather than a fixed group timetable.

The 3-Day Itinerary

Day 1
Arusha or Moshi to Tarangire National Park
  • A private transfer to Tarangire National Park, roughly two hours from Arusha or a little longer from Moshi.
  • An unhurried afternoon game drive among Tarangire's large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees, with your guide free to linger at any sighting for as long as you like.
  • Overnight at a lodge or tented camp inside or beside the park, chosen to match your comfort level and budget.
Day 2
Tarangire to Lake Manyara or the Ngorongoro Highlands
  • A private drive of around two hours toward Lake Manyara, with a game drive through its groundwater forest and along the lakeshore, watching for tree-climbing lions and flamingos.
  • Alternatively, if your priority is more time at the crater, we can route this day directly toward the Ngorongoro Highlands instead, since the schedule is built around what you want.
  • Overnight on the Ngorongoro rim or in Karatu, ready for an early crater descent the next morning.
Day 3
Ngorongoro Crater, then private return
  • An early private descent onto the crater floor, one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, for an unhurried game drive with your own vehicle and guide.
  • A private picnic lunch, timed to your morning rather than a group schedule, before or after ascending the crater rim.
  • A private transfer back to Arusha or Moshi in the afternoon, timed to your onward flight or departure.

This is the default shape of the trip. See the next section for how far it can be adjusted.

How the Itinerary Flexes to You

The outline above is a strong default, not a fixed script. Because the vehicle and guide are private, most of the following are simply a conversation before you travel, not a special request:

  • Swap Lake Manyara for Lake Eyasi on Day 2 for a cultural visit to the Hadzabe and Datoga communities instead of a second game-viewing stop.
  • Extend the crater day and shorten Day 1 if the Ngorongoro Crater is your priority.
  • Start later or finish earlier each day to suit young children, older travellers, or simply a more relaxed pace.
  • Change the order of the parks entirely if it suits your arrival or departure flights better.
  • Add a night if, once you see the route, you decide three days feels too tight, we can requote as a 4-day trip.
Tell us what matters most to you, more time at the crater, a slower pace, a cultural stop, or a specific lodge, and we build the itinerary around that rather than fitting you into a fixed template.

Pricing and How We Quote

We quote this trip individually, so the price reflects your actual group.

Because the vehicle and guide are private to your party, the cost of that vehicle is shared across however many of you travel, so the per-person price falls as your group grows: two people pay more per head than a family of four in the same private vehicle. Add your chosen accommodation level, mid-range, or luxury, and the season you travel, and we send a fully itemised quote showing the park fees, the crater fee, the vehicle and the accommodation as separate lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

It includes your own 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, your own professional guide for the whole trip, all park and conservation fees, all game drives on the itinerary, two nights' accommodation, meals on safari and all transfers. Because the vehicle and guide are private to your party, you never share a game drive with strangers or wait on anyone else's schedule.

It depends on your group size, your chosen accommodation level and the season, so we quote each trip individually rather than posting a fixed price. Because the vehicle and guide are private, the per-person cost falls as your group grows, since two, three or four travellers split the same private vehicle. Send us your dates and group size for a tailored, itemised quote.

The default route covers Tarangire National Park, famous for its elephant herds and baobabs, and the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the best places in Africa to see the Big Five in a single day. Lake Manyara is commonly added as a second day, and because the trip is private we can swap in Lake Eyasi's cultural visits, extend a favourite park, or rearrange the order entirely to fit what you want to see.

On a 3-day trip, every hour matters more than it would on a longer one, and a private vehicle means you set the pace entirely. You can stay with a pride of lions for forty minutes instead of ten, start earlier or later to suit your group, skip a stop that does not interest you, and never wait on other travellers' preferences. The wildlife and the parks are the same either way; what changes is how much of the trip is shaped around you.

Yes, it is one of the most popular choices for families, precisely because the pace and schedule are flexible. You can plan shorter game drives, later starts, and breaks to suit younger children, without needing to keep to a fixed group timetable. Tell us your children's ages when you enquire and we will tailor the itinerary and the accommodation accordingly.

Within reason, yes, and that flexibility is the whole point of a private safari. Because your guide and vehicle are exclusively yours, small changes on the ground, an extra hour at a sighting, a different order of parks, an added stop, are usually possible without disrupting anyone else's trip. Bigger changes such as adding an extra park or night are best discussed and priced before you travel.

The wildlife, the parks and the route are broadly the same as our classic and shared 3-day itineraries. What differs is the vehicle: on this trip it is private to your party throughout, rather than shared with other travellers on a fixed schedule. That gives you more control over pace and timing at a higher price point than a shared safari, while a private lodge or camp level lets you choose comfort separately from the vehicle arrangement.
