Mount Kilimanjaro rises to 5,895 meters, making it Africa's tallest peak and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Its snow-capped summit, unique ecosystems, and panoramic views create an unforgettable trekking adventure.
The Machame Route, also called the "Whiskey Route," is known as one of the most beautiful and adventurous ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. This famous route offers amazing scenery and changing landscapes. Most Machame climbers take 6 days, which helps with acclimatization and increases the chance of reaching Uhuru Peak.
Highlights include the Shira Plateau, the famous Barranco Wall, and the Lava Tower. This route is more demanding than others, so trekkers should be prepared for steep sections and rocky climbs.
Drive from Moshi after breakfast to Machame gate (1800m) and start trekking to Machame camp (3000m). Hike through lush rainforest where you can spot diverse wildlife and tropical plants.
Continue hiking to Shira 2 camp (3850m). The path leaves the forest and enters the moorland zone, offering wide views of the Shira Plateau and Mount Meru in the distance.
Trek through Lava Tower (4600m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (3940m). This "climb high, sleep low" strategy is key for summit success.
Scale the famous Barranco Wall—an exhilarating scramble—and continue to Barafu Camp. Rest early as the summit push begins at midnight.
The ultimate goal: Summiting Uhuru Peak (5895m). After the celebration, descend via Barafu down to Mweka camp (3100m) for your final night on the mountain.
A gentle 3-4 hour walk down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Collect your certificates and drive back to Moshi for a well-deserved celebration.
