Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
You meet your fellow travellers and guide in Arusha on the morning of your set departure, then head southwest for around two hours to Tarangire National Park. The shared vehicle seats up to six or seven guests with a pop-up roof, so everyone has a clear view for game viewing. After lunch at your lodge or camp on the park's edge, you head out together for your first afternoon game drive.
Tarangire's elephant herds, some of the largest concentrations in Tanzania, moving between the park's iconic baobab trees, best appreciated in the dry season when the herds gather along the river.
Day 2
A drive of roughly three hours brings the group to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing up onto the crater rim. The group then descends together to the crater floor for a full day of game viewing across one of the most wildlife-dense landscapes in Africa, with a shared picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the caldera. You overnight together on the rim or in nearby Karatu.
A genuine chance at the Big Five in a single day, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and the rare black rhino, thanks to the crater's contained ecosystem, shared with your fellow travellers as the group's collective highlight of the trip.
Day 3
After breakfast, the group descends from the highlands to Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive through its groundwater forest and along the lakeshore. From there, it is a drive of around two hours back to Arusha, arriving in the afternoon in time for onward travel or your flight home.
Manyara's famous tree-climbing lions and, in the wetter months, flocks of flamingo along the shallows, a gentler final morning to close out three days shared with the same small group.

Wildlife You'll Encounter
Across three days the group moves through three distinct landscapes. Tarangire brings some of the highest elephant concentrations in Tanzania alongside giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and the occasional tree-climbing lion of its own. The Ngorongoro Crater is the trip's centrepiece, a self-contained ecosystem where lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and the rare black rhino are realistically seen together in a single day. The route closes at Lake Manyara, with its groundwater forest, lakeshore birdlife and famous tree-climbing lions.
Best Time to Travel
This route works well year-round, and group departures run throughout the year. The Ngorongoro Crater offers reliable game viewing in every season thanks to its resident wildlife. Tarangire is at its most spectacular in the dry season, roughly June to October, when elephant herds concentrate along the river. Lake Manyara's birdlife, including its flamingos, is often best in the wetter months. Peak season departures, July to October and over the December holidays, tend to fill fastest.
