Premium lodges, a private guide and seamless service across Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater, refined from the moment you land to the moment you fly out.
Premium lodges, top guiding and seamless service on a short, refined safari. Ideal for a special short trip, an anniversary, or a comfortable first taste of the Northern Circuit. Three days is enough time to properly experience two of Tanzania's finest parks, Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater, without the long distances a longer circuit safari involves, and every detail from your airport transfer to your lodge turndown is handled.
Not everyone has ten days for the Northern Circuit, and not every safari needs that many. This 3-day itinerary is built for travellers who want the real thing, private game drives, a proper descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, exceptional lodges, without the longer commitment of a full circuit safari. It suits a honeymoon extension, a short anniversary trip, or simply a comfortable, well-paced introduction to Tanzania before or after time on Zanzibar's beaches.
You travel throughout in a private 4x4 with your own driver-guide, and stay at two of the finest properties in each area, a tented camp or lodge overlooking the elephant herds of Tarangire, and a lodge perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater with views into the caldera itself. Every meal, transfer and park fee is arranged in advance, so the only decision left to you each morning is which direction to point the binoculars.

3-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Your driver-guide collects you from your Arusha hotel or the airport and you head southwest toward Tarangire National Park, with views across the Maasai Steppe along the way.
Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and to settle in before the afternoon's game drive.
Tarangire holds one of Tanzania's largest elephant populations outside the Serengeti ecosystem, along with the ancient baobabs the park is known for. Overnight at your lodge, full board.
Day 2 Best Views
An early start while Tarangire is at its coolest and most active, before breakfast back at the lodge.
Depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, climbing up through coffee farms and highland forest to the crater rim.
Arrive at your rim lodge in the afternoon, with time to enjoy the viewpoint over the caldera before dinner. It is cold on the rim after dark, so pack a warm layer.
Day 3 Crater Floor
Depart before sunrise and descend the steep access road onto the crater floor while the light is soft and predators are most active.
Several hours exploring the plains, swamps and Lerai Forest, searching for lion, elephant and the crater's resident black rhino.
Picnic lunch, then ascend and begin the drive back to Arusha, arriving in the mid-to-late afternoon in time for onward travel.
Timings are a guide and flex with the season, road conditions and the wildlife.

Accommodation
Two nights at hand-picked luxury properties, chosen for location as much as for finish. In Tarangire, you stay at a lodge or tented camp overlooking the park's elephant corridors, on a full-board basis. On the Ngorongoro Crater rim, you stay at a lodge with views directly into the caldera, one of the most striking settings of any safari lodge in Africa. Both properties are full board, and we can quote a small number of ultra-luxury alternatives at each stop if you would like to upgrade further.

Best Time for This Safari
Both parks are excellent year-round. Tarangire is at its most dramatic in the dry season, June to October, when wildlife concentrates around the Tarangire River as other water sources dry up. The Ngorongoro Crater holds its wildlife permanently and does not migrate, so it is a genuine year-round destination. The green season, November to May, brings dramatic skies, newborn wildlife and considerably fewer other vehicles, at the cost of the occasional afternoon shower.
Good to Know
Pack light but bring a warm layer for the crater rim, which is cold after dark and at first light.
This trip suits a short window well: it pairs naturally with a Zanzibar beach stay before or after.
Want a longer trip instead? This same route extends naturally into our 8-day Northern Circuit safari with the Serengeti added.
Because this is a private safari, timings can flex around your flight schedule with advance notice.
Frequently asked questions
The difference is in the lodges, the vehicle and the pace. You stay at two hand-picked luxury properties chosen for location and service rather than a standard mid-range lodge, travel in a private 4x4 with just your own party, and the itinerary is built to properly experience two parks in three days rather than rush through more.
It is enough for a genuine taste of it. Three days lets you properly experience Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater, two of the circuit's best parks, without the longer distances a full Serengeti circuit involves. If you have more time, our 8-day Northern Circuit safari adds the Serengeti and the Great Migration.
Our private 3-day, 2-night luxury safari starts from around US$3,150 per person for a solo traveller, falling to around US$1,750 per person for a group of five to six, since the vehicle, guide and crater fee are shared. Park fees, luxury accommodation, a private 4x4 and guide are all included.
Yes. The Crater Service Fee of about US\$295 per vehicle and all Tarangire and Ngorongoro Conservation Area entry fees are included in our price, along with your luxury accommodation.
Yes, this is one of the most popular short additions to a Zanzibar holiday. Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport, complete the 3-day safari, then fly on to Zanzibar to relax on the coast, or the reverse order.
Two nights at hand-picked luxury properties: a lodge or tented camp overlooking Tarangire's elephant corridors, and a lodge on the Ngorongoro Crater rim with views into the caldera. Both are full board. Ultra-luxury and exclusive-use upgrades are available on request.
It is entirely private. You have your own 4x4 and driver-guide for your party alone, with no other travellers sharing the vehicle, and the pace and timings are built around you.

Puts together Northern Circuit itineraries most weeks, sequencing each around the guest's flights and the season, and would rather send the route that fits than the one already on the shelf. This one includes a full afternoon and morning game drive in Tarangire, famous for its elephant herds and ancient baobabs.
