Twelve days that give a family or multi-generational group the best of Tanzania: historic Stone Town, the classic Northern Circuit through Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Serengeti with a walking safari and the Ngorongoro Crater, a relaxed cultural day at the waterfalls and hot springs, then the Zanzibar coast to unwind. It runs in a private 4x4 with a pop-up roof, so your group travels together at its own pace, with the domestic flights, park fees and transfers included. Everything below is a starting point we tailor to your dates, your pace and how you want the safari, culture and beach balanced.
Safari and beach, balanced for every generation

Why This Trip Works for Families
A safari and beach trip has to do something difficult: keep energetic adult children happy, give parents and grandparents comfort and pace, and let everyone share the same experience. This 12-day route is built to do exactly that.
The private 4x4 is the heart of it. Your group travels alone, with your own guide, stopping when you want and never sharing game drives with strangers, which matters more with a mixed-age group than almost anything else. The trip then layers variety on top: the big-game drama of the Serengeti and the crater, a walking safari for those who want to feel the bush on foot, gentle cultural days for everyone, and the Zanzibar coast to finish. Nobody is stuck doing only what one generation enjoys.
And because we run it privately, the shape is yours. Want more time on the beach and less in the vehicle? We rebalance it. Travelling with someone who tires easily? We build in slower days. This page shows the classic version; the real trip is the one we tailor to your group.
The Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive Zanzibar, Stone Town
Land on the island and ease into the trip with an afternoon walking tour of Stone Town, the old Swahili and Omani heart of Zanzibar, with its carved doors, spice-trade history and waterfront. A gentle, atmospheric start while you find your feet.
Stone Town tourFly to Arusha
A short flight from Zanzibar to Arusha, the gateway to the Northern Circuit. The rest of the day is free to rest and recover, so you begin the safari fresh rather than tired.
Domestic flightTarangire National Park
The safari begins in earnest. Tarangire is elephant and baobab country, with large herds moving among ancient trees along the river, especially in the dry season. A full first day of game drives to set the tone.
Game driveLake Manyara National Park
A change of scenery, from the groundwater forest to the soda-lake shore, with excellent birdlife, hippo and the park's famous tree-climbing lions. When water levels allow, there is the option of canoeing on the lake for a different perspective.
Game driveOptional canoeingSerengeti National Park, with a walking safari
Three nights in the Serengeti, split between the central plains for their resident lions, leopard and cheetah, and, in the migration season, the north for the herds and the Mara River. A guided walking safari, on foot with a certified guide and an armed ranger, lets you experience the bush at ground level, tracks, plants and smaller life you miss from a vehicle. If the migration is your goal, we weight these nights toward where the herds will be for your dates.
Game drivesWalking safariNgorongoro Crater
A descent onto the crater floor, one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa, with big herds, lion prides and the resident black rhino, one of the best rhino chances in Tanzania. An optional Maasai village visit adds a cultural dimension to the day.
Crater descentOptional Maasai villageMateruni Waterfalls & Kikuletwa Hot Springs
A relaxed day at the foot of Kilimanjaro near Moshi: a walk through Chagga farmland to the Materuni Waterfalls, a coffee-making experience with a local family, and an afternoon swim in the clear Kikuletwa Hot Springs. A gentle, sociable change of pace after the intensity of the safari.
WaterfallsCoffee tourHot springsArusha to Zanzibar
A morning at leisure, with the option of an Arusha city tour, then an evening flight back to Zanzibar to begin the beach half of the trip.
Domestic flightZanzibar Blue Safari
A full day on the water: a traditional dhow, snorkelling over reefs, sandbanks and a fresh seafood lunch, the classic Zanzibar Blue Safari. Or simply stay on the beach if the group would rather rest.
Blue SafariBeachBeach and Departure
A final relaxed morning on the coast before your evening flight home, ending the trip rested rather than rushed.

Pricing and How We Quote
We quote this trip individually, so you get a fair, itemised price.
The cost depends on your group size, your travel season and the level of accommodation. Rather than a fixed figure, we send a tailored quote with the park fees, the domestic flights, the private vehicle and every transfer shown as separate lines, so you can see exactly what you are paying for. Larger groups and multi-generational families often get better value per person by sharing the private vehicle.
Request a tailored quoteA note on comparing quotes: some operators exclude your Zanzibar hotel nights from the headline price, so a cheaper-looking quote is not always cheaper overall. For how the fees and costs stack up, see our safari costs and park fees guide, and before you pay any operator a deposit, our guide to spotting a fake operator is worth two minutes.
