It all began while in Zanzibar. I felt a need to enjoy a safari but in a budget way, with less logistic costs and not far from Zanzibar. My options were Mikumi National Park and Nyerere (Selous) National Park. After a full day of research online, Mikumi was the best choice. It is famously close to Dar es Salaam, resembles the Serengeti plains, and the density of wildlife is similar to Northern Circuit Parks.

How do you get to Mikumi affordably? Flying from Zanzibar is expensive. From Dar es Salaam, it is quite affordable via the SGR Electric Train. The ride is swift, first-class, and scenic, passing through mountains, valleys, and the streets of Dar es Salaam. Booking is easy via the SGR Portal.

SGR Station Dar Es Salaam
Board the first-class SGR electric train. After 1 hour and 45 minutes, arrive in Morogoro city. The morning mist and chill weather are fantastic for traveling convenience.
Arrival at Mikumi Main Gate
A 2-hour drive from Morogoro station. The drive is awesome as you see herds of wildlife, zebras, and giraffes along the road before even reaching the gate.
The Best Game Drive of My Life
Board the safari jeep. The vegetation plains are amazing. We saw herds of buffaloes and elephants. The highlight was a pride of lions with small cubs resting under the scrubs. My breath was taken away.
