The short version

Our group joining (sharing) safari puts you in a shared 4x4 with a driver-guide and other travellers on a fixed itinerary and set departure date. The vehicle, fuel and guide costs are split between everyone on board, so the per-person price is lower than a private safari.

Kai Tours runs group joining safaris across Tanzania's northern circuit and southern circuit wildlife adventures. Choose your safari, send us your preferred dates, and we confirm the next departure and your price.

Kai Tours also offers optional fly-in add-ons if you would like to start your safari from the island paradise of Zanzibar or from Dar es Salaam, and experience both northern and southern Tanzania safaris with us.

What is a group joining safari?

On our group joining safari you travel with other guests rather than on your own. The route, pace and timings are fixed for the whole group, and you share one safari vehicle with a professional English-speaking driver-guide.

Each vehicle is a 4x4 with a pop-up roof carrying a maximum of six or seven travellers, so everyone has a window seat and a clear view. It is not a large coach.

  • Lower cost per person, because the vehicle and guide are shared
  • Built-in company, which suits solo travellers and couples
  • Fixed itineraries and set departure dates, so there is nothing to plan
  • The same parks, wildlife and guides as a private safari

The trade-off is flexibility: you cannot change the schedule on the day. If you want your own pace, ask us for a private safari instead.

Best time for a group joining safari

Group departures run year-round. The dry season from June to October gives the easiest game viewing and the northern migration, and it is the busiest time. January and February bring the calving season in the southern and central Serengeti. March to May and November are green, quieter and better value, with excellent viewing in the Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire.

Peak periods, roughly July to October and the December holidays, fill fastest.
