Escape the crowds of the north and dive into the wild heart of Southern Tanzania. This 5-day expedition curated by Kai Tours and Safaris offers a raw, authentic wildlife experience. You will traverse the vast savannahs of Mikumi, explore the massive elephant empire of Ruaha (Tanzania's largest park), and hike the lush rainforests of the Udzungwa Mountains.
The Drive: Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Dar es Salaam. We head west for a scenic 3.5 to 4-hour drive to Mikumi National Park, often called the "Mini-Serengeti."
The Action: Upon arrival, enjoy a full-day game drive. The "Mkata Floodplain" is a hub for wildlife. Watch for huge herds of buffalo, elegant giraffes, and the famous Mikumi lions. Keep an eye out for pythons in the trees and leopards in the thickets.

The Journey: After enjoying a satisfying breakfast, we depart for Ruaha National Park. This journey takes you through the heart of Tanzania, crossing the stunning Southern Highlands and passing the charming town of Iringa. The 7-hour drive offers breathtaking views of baobab-dotted hills and traditional villages along the way.
The Arrival: Upon reaching Ruaha, the vastness of this 20,000 sq km wilderness becomes evident. Begin with an introductory game drive on the way to your camp, catching your first sights of the majestic Great Ruaha River.
Meals & Accommodation: All meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are included during your stay. Overnight lodging is at the campsite, but can be upgraded upon request for an extra charge to suit your preference.
Pure Safari: Today is fully devoted to exploring Ruaha. Famous for hosting Tanzania’s largest elephant herds, the park is also a haven for predators. Embark on a quest to spot the “Big Cats”—lions (sometimes in prides of up to 20!), leopards, and the rare cheetah.
The Rarities: Ruaha offers unique wildlife sightings, including both Greater and Lesser Kudu, as well as Sable and Roan Antelopes. With more than 370 bird species and over 1,600 types of plants, every moment brings a new discovery.

The Transition: We start the day with a final early morning game drive in Ruaha before heading towards the Udzungwa Mountains. The change from the dry savannah to the lush, misty rainforest is simply stunning.
